MICHIEL BORSTLAP ABOUT eLDORADO
“eLDORADO is a new step into my musical experience. Todays technology is such a source of inspiration, and we truly were inspired for this project. Nothing was forbidden, all could be excepted, as long as magic was captured. That was our task and we worked on it for more than a year.
How do we call this music? Well, search within Funk, Dance, Jazz, an Operasinger, some Urban....
'You might find what you'll seek : 'this land of eLDORADO' (Edgar Allan Poe).
With eLDORADO we offer you 14 original tracks, plus one bonustrack and only cover 'My Old Piano', sung by the great Edsilia Rombley, which was carefully
produced by Tjeerd P.Oosterhuis.
'eldorado' is more of a sampler of what you might expect on the album. It has special designs and grooves, solos of piano and fender rhodes, and some vocals.
'Hubbah' is based on a funky banjo part played by Piet Jan de Bel, the rhodes solo speaks for itself.
'Dig' gives more room for the piano, it was so much fun to record this track.
Dig is mixed into the dreamy 'Piano on Saturn', which was entirely created around a piano improvisation. Check out the orchestra!
The bassline of the rocky 'Pretty Baby' was based on a tune written by one my heroes, Joe Zawinul, who sadly passed away in 2007. Singer Sylvi Lane helps me
out on this one!
"Cherish your Sunshine' gives a latino groovy picture to the album. Recording the vocals was big fun too.
When recording 'Jambition' we wanted to add another dimension to the original recording of the tune ('Coffee & Jazz'-Michiel Borstlap GPMusic 050505).
This is just funk.
Both tunes 'Happy Mummy' & 'Cafe van Leeuwen' were other moments of joy to record, and we wanted to just give the listener a feeling of comfort.
'Oh look..the..the..the" features french/american actress Verane Pick. Her flawless speech raps perfectly on top of the urban downtempo of the song.
The '4 on da floor tune' 'Deja-Vu' kicks, and the rhodes gets real nasty. A goodlistener though hears a 5/4!
The piano solo track of the album, 'The Mill End', was recorded in a far, yet comfortable place. Some cows were nearby and a small dog was running aroud like
a mad man.
Opera star Xenia Meijer beautifully sings my newest aria 'The Music We Are', first only with strings, than followed by beats and design. Speaking of it, the
master of this all is for sure Reinder van Zalk whose amazing dedication, talent and craftsmanship came to fruition.
His ears and eyes are essential in the creation of this album.
Reinder's core business as being the director of Earforce (a topnotch company in the dutch music-related advertisment world) is to emphasize, enhance or
simply create a visual with music.
This way of thinking has brought the album to another level. I'm very sure you like his beats, designs, the weird stuff and the easy feels.
Last but not least, the artwork for this album is created by Christian Borstlap. Christian worked in London for Wallpaper magazine. One can easily say that
he is one of the most soughtafter art directors in the world. He is currently working at Kessels Kramer (Amsterdam)
Enjoy!
